The 4-4-6 Breathing Method
How to do it
Inhale
Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of 4.
Hold
Gently hold your breath for a count of 4. Try to keep your shoulders relaxed.
Exhale
Slowly breathe out through your mouth for a count of 6, letting your body soften as you breathe out.
Repeat
Repeat this cycle 3–5 times, or for as long as it feels comfortable.
Why it can help
- Encourages your breathing to slow down.
- Helps release physical tension.
- Can help settle a busy or racing mind.
- Creates a gentle moment to pause before continuing your day.
- Reminds you to be present, one breath at a time.
Bloomful Tip
- You don’t have to wait until you’re overwhelmed.
- Try this breathing exercise before starting work, while waiting in the school pick-up line, before an important conversation, or anytime you simply need a quiet moment to reset.
Gentle Reminder
- Breathing exercises aren’t about fixing everything.
- Sometimes they’re simply a kind way to pause, care for yourself, and create enough space to take the next step with a clearer mind.
